Voort zetting reis / continuing journey

17 Januari 2020 | Bonaire, Kralendijk
The continuation of our journey was slightly different than we had thought.
We sailed from Bonaire to Puerto Rico.
The day before Christmas the wind was very favorable to do that. The reason we left was because there was no public transport at all, you had to do everything with a taxi and were expensive at Bonaire.
On the 2nd night the line with which you can roll the genoa in (the large front sheet) broke.
We had him roll out about 3/4.
But now that it was completely rolled out, the ship ran very fast.. 11 knots. That's a lot! We can only do 1 thing and that was the Genoa must be taken down.
That was not easy because it was dark and there was quite a lot of wind 28 knots of wind indicated the wind meter. (1Knot is 1852 meters) Marjorie manages to get the boat headed into the wind just on time to got the sail down on deck with high speed.
Now fasten the sail so that it does not blow overboard. We had to use the the last part on the oil sail (engine). Exactly after three days we were in Ponce ,Puerto Rico.
A beautiful and very quiet bay where we first anchored for a few days.
Where we actually had little or no contact with the people; we decided to go into the marina anyway.
We were in the harbor on New Year's Eve where a live cocert of Salsa music was given with buffet.
On the second day of the new year we were woken up by Mother Earth an earthquake of 6.9 on the Richter scale. It remained very uneasy about earthquakes that day and the day and thereafter. We soon decided after the heavy quake to go back to anchor again.
It turns out that this is a very troubled area, with an average of 30 quakes a day. But they are of a more general nature.
Nevertheless, because of the thunder of the bottom, we were able to make nice contacts.
A small problem with the washing machine was that the drain pump broke. Thiswe ordered in the Netherlands, they are now on their way, it was said at Post NL that they must arrive in Puerto Rico in 5 working days, so apparently that is not true because after 7 days it is not yet there. We now have to stay here until the package arrives because we want to get away from this area as quickly as possible.
The weather here is very attractive at this time of the year.

Hans Van Rijn:
Knap gedaan jongens! -

I am just opening this message. I hope that your pump arrived and have moved on. Where are you now? Stay SAFE!
